VARD, one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of specialized vessels, announced that it had signed a contract for the construction of a cable laying vessel for an undisclosed customer.
The hull will be built at Vard Tulcea in Romania and the vessel will be outfitted and delivered from one of VARD’s yards in Norway in Q4 2026. The value of the contract is between EUR 200 – 250m. The design of the vessel is by the Norwegian company Salt Ship Design AS.
Vard said that further information about the contract and the vessel will be announced at a later date.
Currently, Norway’s Vard Shipyard has been contracted for a number of cable-laying vessels, including a cable-laying vessel to be delivered in 2025 by Italian cable giant Prysmian, a cable-laying vessel for Denmark’s NCT Offshore, and a hybrid cable-laying construction vessel ordered by Japan’s Toyo Construction.
