Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Delivers The LNG Dual-Fuel 7000TEU Container Ship “ZIM EMERALD

On December 15, ZIM EMERALD, the third LNG dual-fuel 7,000 TEU container ship built by Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.,a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group for shipowner SEASPAN, was formally delivered and started its maiden voyage.

The 7000TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship is the landmark ship type of New Yangzi Shipbuilding’s comprehensive transformation to build green new energy ships. And it is the first domestic dual-fuel medium-sized container ship equipped with B-type fuel tanks. There are a total of 15 vessels in this project, all of which are constructed by Xin Yangzi Shipbuilding.

The LNG dual-fuel 7000TEU container ships are 272m in length overall, 42.8m in breadth, 24.6m in depth, and are capable of carrying 8,242 nominal spaces at a structural draught of 15m. At a design draft of 12.50m, with 90% SMCR main engine power and 15% sea margin, the service speed is 22 knots. The main engine, generator and boiler are all dual-fueled with fuel oil and LNG, which greatly reduces carbon-based emissions, and the use of EGR and SCR equipment meets the requirements of Tier III, which is more environmentally friendly.

In addition, the ship carries a Type B 9-nickel steel LNG fuel tank which is the first of its kind in China and was jointly designed by New Yangzi Shipbuilding.

The construction of the vessel commenced in November 2022. There are 15 vessels in the series of the same type, and this vessel is the third in the series, which will be put into operation in the fleet of ZIM Corporation (Star Shipping) after delivery.
