GSI Delivers the Largest Tonnage Container Ship in South China

On December 7, the 16,000 TEU Container Vessel No. 3 built by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) for CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited and Mediterranean Shipping Group (MSC), was named and delivered.

Ms. JI Chunyan, President of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, was the godmother and named the ship – MSC VICTORINE.

The vessel is a super-large container ship with a length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a depth of 30.2 meters and a design draft of 14.5 meters. It can carry up to 16,616 standard containers, which is the largest tonnage container ship built in South China at present, and it is also the main ship type serving Asia-Europe trade.

The vessel is designed by Marine Design & Research Institute of China (MARIC) with superior performance.By optimizing the line shape, propeller, main engine and adopting a series of energy-saving measures, this type of ship achieves lower fuel consumption under the premise of ensuring good speed and maneuverability, and the ship’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) reaches the third-stage standard, which meets the world’s most stringent emission requirements. Meanwhile, the ship’s large-capacity reefer containers layout and system are further improved, and the operating cost of a single container is reduced significantly.
