On December 5, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) successfully held the launch and signing ceremony of the Onboard Carbon Capture System (OCCS) at Marintec China 2023 (Shanghai). China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and Shandong Ocean Development Group Co., Ltd. signed the world’s first contract for a marine carbon capture system covering the entire process of capture-liquefaction-storage.
Based on the rich experience accumulated in the field of desulfurization and denitrification of ships, Qiyao Environ Tec has successfully developed the Carbon Capture System for Ships with independent intellectual property rights over a period of 5 years.
The system adopts key technologies such as high-efficiency new composite absorber design, multi-stage energy utilization of carbon dioxide analysis and separation, environmentally friendly refrigerant compression and liquefaction refrigeration, and non-destructive storage of liquid carbon dioxide in one-stop tanks, etc. It possesses the advantages of high capture efficiency, low operation energy consumption and compact structure, and its technical indexes have reached the international leading level.
Under the contract, the two sides will take the 82,000 DWT bulk carrier under Shandong Huachen Leasing as the target demonstration ship, carry out the design and installation application of the carbon capture system covering the whole process of capture, separation, liquefaction and storage, to build China’s first pilot project of carbon capture system for a new ship to form a demonstration effect, and actively promote the construction of standards for the application of carbon capture technology in the shipping industry.
