Aegean Shipping and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) Sign Contract for Construction of Two Tankers

According to the official website of Aegean Shipping Management, Aegean Shipping and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou reached an agreement for the construction of two more tankers, type LR2 ice class, with a carrying capacity of 114,000 DWT each.

The single vessel will cost approximately $64 million and is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2026, according to industry estimates.

The two new vessels are understood to be Aegean Shipping’s first order for ice-class product tankers, continuing the company’s tradition of specializing in investing in new vessels.

The new vessels will be equipped with the latest MAN B&W engines for optimum fuel efficiency, energy saving devices such as Pre-Shrouded Vane (PSV) and Hub Vortex Absorbing Fins (HVAF) to increase the ship’s power output, and energy saving through the use of LED lighting and the installation of frequency converters in each of the seawater pumps in the engine room. A validated state-of-the-art marine ballast handling system will also be installed. The new vessel meets the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Stage 3 requirements and will join the company’s green fleet.

Including the latest order, the number of new ship orders built by Aegean Shipping in cooperation with COSCO Shipping’s shipyards has reached 14, covering eight tankers and six bulk carriers.

The official website shows that Aegean Shipping currently operates a fleet of 15 vessels, of which six Aframax tankers and six Kamsarmax bulk carriers are delivered by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries, and three MR product tankers are constructed by Korea’s Daehwang Shipbuilding.
