Two Chinese shipyards sign orders for 10 methanol dual-fuel feeder container ships

Arkona Allied Container (AAC), a Germany-based joint venture charterer, has confirmed that a newbuilding project encompassing ten firm eco-friendly containerships has been initiated.

Shipowners HS Schiffahrt, H.P. Wegener, Reederei Jüngerhans, Reederei Wessels and Visser Shipping have recently entered into construction contracts for 10 methanol dual-fuel powered feeder containerships with Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry and Qingdao Yangfan Shipbuilding. The units are scheduled to be delivered in 2025 and 2026.

The container vessel will feature the new “Eniviro Feeder” design developed in close cooperation between the owner, the charterer, SMB Naval Architect of the Netherlands and DNV. The design can accommodate 45-foot containers, has low fuel consumption, can run on methanol fuel, and will be equipped with shore power and CO2 capture technology in the future.

Arkona Allied Container is understood to have been established in June 2018 by ARKON Shipping, Allied Feederships Chartering and several shipowners to combine the shareholders’ feeder containerships into a large fleet, market the vessels and optimize the cost structure of the chartering business.
