SWS delivered two 7000TEU container vessels consecutively within three days

On November 6th and November 8th, the first and second ships of a series of 7000TEU container vessels, “ONE READINESS” and “ONE REASSURANCE”, built by SWS, a subsidiary of CSSC, in collaboration with CSTD for Seaspan Corporation, have been successfully named and delivered. So far, SWS has exceeded its annual completion and delivery goal ahead of schedule, with 22 high-quality ships and offshore products completed, including China’s first domestically built large cruise ship, 11 7000 TEU container vessels, 7 190K DWT dual fuel bulk carriers, 2 Aframax oil tankers, and 1 generic Fast4ward Multi Purpose Floater Hull.

The series of 7000TEU container vessels delivered this time adopted the design of new generation of mid-sized container vessels which is developed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute, a subsidiary of CSSC.

The vessels have a total length of 272 meters, a molded breadth of 42.8 meters, a molded depth of 24.6 meters, a loaded draft of 15 meters, a carrying capacity of over 83,500 DWT. It can accommodate 9 layers and 17 rows of containers on the deck, and 8 layers and 15 rows of containers in the cargo holds, with a total capacity of over 7,200 standard 20-foot containers. The vessels can accommodate 1,200 reefer container sockets. The container arrangement on the deck adopts a mixed stowage design, which can increase the stacking weight of containers on the hatch covers and deck.

In terms of speed, the vessels incorporate a streamlined design, combined with the combinations of efficient propellers, energy-saving ducts, fully suspended twisted rudders, and bulbous bow, which greatly optimize speed and significantly reduce fuel consumption. The unique S-BOW design is closer to operational reality, reducing both static water resistance and wave resistance in adverse sea conditions. It integrates a semi-enclosed bow wind shield of bulwarks and wave splitters, can effectively reduce wind resistance under specific conditions. Through sea trial, the vessels’ speed performance is significantly higher than the contracted speed, demonstrating excellent speed capabilities.

In terms of environmental design, the main engine is equipped with an EGRTC system, and the auxiliary engine is equipped with an SCR system, effectively meeting IMO Tier III emission standards for nitrogen oxides. A hybrid desulfurization tower is installed for flexible compliance with different scenarios’ requirements for sulfur dioxide emissions. The vessels meet DNV’s stringent requirements for Clean (Design), with all oil-containing compartments having double-shell protection, further enhancing environmental performance. The vessels’ Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets the requirements of the third phase approved at the MEPC75 meeting, achieving a reduction of over 50% compared to the baseline value.

In terms of safety design, the vessels adopt DNV’s FCS fire control symbols and are equipped with a deck fixed fire-fighting system and cargo hold water spray system, effectively enhancing the ability to detect and extinguish container fires. The design provides a variety of calculation books to validate system design rationality. Multi-condition CFD numerical analysis are conducted to validate and optimize the ventilation of refrigerated cargo holds, further improving the reliability of refrigerated transport.

Additionally, the vessels are equipped with a medium-voltage shore power device, increasing the flexibility of power allocation. A comprehensive automation system is installed, adopting DNV’s one-man bridge design, with intelligent systems like auxiliary berthing, greatly enhancing automation and driving reliability. The vessels are also equipped with a powerful local area network system and various communication facilities such as FBB, VSAT, and Iridium, achieving ship-shore big data interaction, further improving the vessels’ level of intelligence and operational efficiency.
