On October 20, the construction of Vessels No. 34 and No. 47 of the 210,000-ton bulk carrier project for Belgium’s CMB Company, which was undertaken by Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding of CSSC, commenced successfully.
Vessel No. 34 is the last vessel in the first batch of “Ammonia Ready” series (6 vessels) constructed by Beihai Shipbuilding, while Vessel No. 47 is the first vessel in the second batch of “Ammonia Ready” (10 vessels) constructed by Beihai Shipbuilding. The main scale parameters of this series of vessels are the same as the previous ones, the biggest difference is that the main engine is replaced by WinGD model.
The commencement of the project marked the first batch of “Ammonia Ready” vessels all turned into the construction stage, and also kicked off the construction of the second batch of the series of vessels. Prior to the commencement of the project, all departments of Beihai Shipbuilding cooperated closely and completed all the preparatory work according to the plan, which laid a solid foundation for the smooth operation of the project.
The second batch of 10 “Ammonia Ready” newbuildings with a total value of $640 million will be contracted in 2022 and are expected to be delivered in 2025 and 2026, according to previous news. The vessel has an overall length of 300 meters, a beam of 50 meters, a depth of 25.2 meters, a design draught of 16.1 meters, a structural draught of 18.4 meters, and a speed of 14.5 knots, which meets the requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s TIER III emission standards and the third stage (Phase III) of the EEDI index for ships, and in the future, it will be able to be equipped with two 3,000 cbm ammonia fuel storage tanks to realize a full-range “Zero carbon” operation.
