World’s Largest PCTC “BYD Shenzhen” Sets Sail from Jiangsu to Brazil

On April 27, the world’s largest PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “BYD Shenzhen” set out on its maiden voyage to Brazil, carrying more than 7,000 BYD new energy commercial vehicles. This marks the largest single – batch export of domestic automobiles.

“BYD Shenzhen” was built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) (“CMJL (Nanjing)”) . As the world’s largest PCTC currently in operation, the vessel has a total length of 219.9 meters and a beam of 37.7 meters, which is equivalent to parking 18 standard cars side by side on the deck.

The vessel has 9,200 Car Equivalent Units (CEU), which is equivalent to transporting parking space the size of 20 standard soccer fields at a time. The vessel has a total of 16 decks, with 4 adjustable decks, which can realize efficient mixing and loading of different vehicles.

With a speed of 19 knots, “BYD Shenzhen” ensures efficient and direct routes, further shortens the transportation cycle, reduces logistics costs, and helps BYD’s new energy vehicles reach global customers faster and safer.

It is worth mentioning that after the world’s largest Ro-Ro vessel “Höegh Sunlight” was delivered and named on January 14, 2025 and made its maiden voyage, the record of the world’s largest Ro-Ro vessel was once again set in Taicang Port.

According to statistics, since the official opening of Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal in December 2024, it has exported 212,000 domestically produced vehicles. So far this year, 75 ro-ro vessels have sailed to 14 countries and regions around the world, including 11 countries and regions under the “Belt and Road” program. In the first quarter of this year, Taicang Port exported 147,600 vehicles, an increase of 18.35% year-on-year. Among them, 58,500 vehicles were exported to countries that jointly build the “Belt and Road”, an increase of 3.06% year-on-year.
