CSSC’s SMDERI Secures European Order for 6,800DWT Chemical Tanker’s Electric Propulsion System

Recently, the electric propulsion system integration business of Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research institute (SMDERI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has been reported again.

SMDERI got the batch ship order of 6800DWT chemical tanker electric propulsion system built by Yangzhou Wanlong Shipbuilding for a Danish shipowner. Up to now, SMDERI holds more than 30 orders of electric propulsion system for oil and chemical tankers, and has successfully expanded to the European market.

The 6800DWT chemical tanker is classified by BV and adopts DC grid electric propulsion. The power station is equipped with 3 generator sets and 1 set of 1200kWh lithium iron phosphate battery system to provide electricity to meet the power needs of ship navigation, port entry and exit, loading and unloading, etc.

SMDERI adopts a permanent magnet low-speed coaxial dual-motor propulsion system, and combines the ship’s operating conditions to optimize the control strategy of the diesel-electric hybrid system, realizing energy-saving operation of the ship while making control more convenient and efficient.

In recent years, SMDERI supplied DC Grid Electric Propulsion System has been successfully applied in bulk chemical vessels of Shanghai Dingheng Shipping Technology. With the stable and reliable system, as well as the effect of high efficiency and energy saving, DC grid electric propulsion system has won the attention of overseas market.
