On April 22, the full-process onboard carbon capture system (OCCS) customized for the 82,000 DWT bulk carrier of Shandong Shipping Corporation (Shandong Shipping) by Shanghai QiYao Environmental Technology (Qiyao Environ Tec), a subsidiary of CSSC, successfully passed multiple factory acceptance tests (FAT), marking the countdown to the delivery of Qiyao Environ Tec’s first new bulk carrier carbon capture system in the world.
The project was developed by Qiyao Environ Tec and integrates the full process functions of ship exhaust gas capture, treatment and storage, which can effectively reduce the carbon emission intensity of ships and extend the operating cycle of the ship, and is scheduled to be completed and delivered this year.
Qiyao Environ Tec has broken through the bottleneck of carbon capture technology application in bulk carriers and created the world’s first carbon capture system for bulk carriers that covers the entire process of “capture – liquefaction – storage”.
The system adopts organic amine solution absorption technology, which can efficiently capture CO₂ in ship exhaust gas. The capture efficiency can reach more than 90%, and the purity of the absorbed CO₂ can reach 99.9%. The key indexes have reached the international first-class level.
Through modular design, the system achieves efficient use of ship space and has the advantages of wide applicability and low cost of use. It can effectively meet the stringent requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) onboard carbon emissions and provides a practical solution for bulk carriers to cope with increasingly stringent carbon emission requirements.
