Recently, the largest dry dock in the Middle East, No. 4 dry dock of the Saudi King Salman International Integrated Port Facilities Project, was successfully completed and delivered, marking a major progress in the construction of the Saudi King Port project in which Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) participated.
The Saudi King Port project is undertaken by PowerChina’s Shandong Electric Power Construction, and ZPMC is responsible for the construction of important components such as the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 dry dock gates, the ship lift system, the launching barge and the pontoon.
Three of the dock gates and the ship lift system were built by ZPMC. As the largest dry dock in the Middle East, No. 4 dry dock is 550 meters long, 75 meters wide and 13.8 meters deep, with a total of 126,000 cubic meters of concrete poured. The dock gate built by ZPMC is 76.5 meters long, 6.2 meters wide and 12.5 meters high. After water filling and ballasting, the total weight exceeds 3,000 tons. It only takes 30 minutes to open and launching, which helps the dry dock operate efficiently.
The project was laid and named by King Salman himself. It is an important part of Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” national reform program. After completion, it will become the world’s largest “super shipyard”, mainly engaged in the manufacture, maintenance, repair and overhaul of ships and drilling platforms, including the inspection and manufacturing of supertankers.
During the construction process, ZPMC gave full play to its own advantages and carefully organized, designed and constructed the project, demonstrating ZPMC’s construction strength in this field and continuing to help Saudi Arabia achieve economic structure transformation and diversified development.
