HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, said Thursday it has secured a 159 billion won ($111 million) order to build two container ships for a client in Asia, according to Yonhap.
The vessels will be delivered to an undisclosed Asian shipping company by May 2027, the company said in a regulatory filing.
This is another new ship order for HD Hyundai Mipo after one week. On April 17, HD Hyundai Mipo was awarded two 45,000 cubic meter LPG carriers by Nieto Trading, a Dutch company under the Mexican multi-interest group Grupo Nieto, with a total order value of about 230.6 billion won ($162.6 million).
HD Hyundai Mipo is one of three affiliates under HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE), alongside HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.
Together with the latest order, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has taken orders for 29 new vessels worth about $4.5 billion this year, accomplishing about 24.9 percent of its annual order target of $18.05 billion.
By ship type, the order includes 14 container ships, four tankers, four liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessels, two ethane carriers, four LPG/ammonia carriers, and one LNG carrier.
