On April 21, Seacon Shipping Group Holdings Limited (hereinafter referred to as “Seacon Shipping”) issued an announcement on “Acquisition of Vessel in a Discloseable Transaction”.
The announcement disclosed that on April 18, 2025, Seacon Shipping’s indirect wholly-owned subsidiary signed a shipbuilding contract with the seller Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for a 63,300 DWT bulk carrier. The total contract price was US$38.34 million and the new vessel is expected to be delivered on April 30, 2027.
Seacon Shipping said the acquisition of the vessels under this shipbuilding contract is in line with the group’s strategy to continuously optimize its fleet by gradually retiring its older controlled vessels and replacing them with newer vessels as well as expanding its controlled fleet.
Public information shows that Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding was originally a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tsuneishi Holdings under the Tsuneishi Group in China. It was established in March 2003 and has built more than 280 vessels of various types to date. According to Clarksons data, Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding currently has more than 50 orders, with delivery dates scheduled until 2029.
According to previous reports, Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding has become a joint venture company of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group. On March 24, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Co., Ltd. announced that Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group had completed the capital injection into Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding on the same day of the announcement. So far, Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding has become a joint venture company of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group with a 34% stake.
