Skretting, a global leader in sustainable nutritional solutions for the aquaculture industry, has entered into a 15-year agreement with Vertom and Strand Shipping for the lease of four modern diesel-electric vessels. This strategic collaboration builds on a trusted relationship and aims to streamline the import of raw materials while significantly reducing the environmental footprint of Skretting’s supply chain.
This 15-year partnership underscores a shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence. Over the past year, the partners have meticulously designed and optimized this solution to ensure the vessels meet the highest standards of environmental sustainability, performance, and efficiency. The newly designed vessels feature energy-efficient hulls and a state-of-the-art diesel-electric, multi-fuel propulsion system. This configuration is expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by approximately 30% compared to conventional systems.
Each vessel will be equipped with a range of sustainable technologies that contribute to reducing emissions and improving efficiency. These include biofuel capabilities for cleaner energy use and shore-power connections that allow the vessels to cut emissions during port operations. Where feasible, wind-assisted propulsion (WAPS) will also be integrated to further reduce fuel consumption. In addition, the vessels will feature several other decarbonization measures aimed at enhancing overall environmental performance. Together, these innovations will significantly lower the environmental impact of Skretting’s logistics operations, while maintaining high standards of performance and reliability.
Over the past year, the three partners have worked closely to develop and optimize this solution. Their collaborative efforts, facilitated by logistics partner Kuehne + Nagel, have resulted in a forward-thinking shipping strategy that balances environmental goals with performance and efficiency.

With over 50 years of experience, Vertom operates a modern fleet of more than 100 vessels, offering solutions in shipping & trading, port agencies, freight forwarding, tanker chartering, and liner services. Their extensive international network and advanced technologies enable them to provide tailor-made solutions for the short-sea shipping market.
Founded in 1988, Strand Shipping specializes in shipbroking and agency services with a strong presence in the Scandinavian shipping market. The company operates a fleet of about 20 vessels, ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 DWT. Strand Shipping also offers ship clearance services, with agents based in Mo I Rana and remote agency operations in most Norwegian ports. In addition, the company has an office in Bergen and maintains a partnership with Vertom. Strand Shipping remains focused on fleet expansion and modernization.
