On April 17, the unveiling ceremony of the Chief Scientist Studio of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the “Studio”) was held in Beijing. This is a practical action of CNOOC to implement the innovation-driven development strategy and promote high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in marine science and technology. Yu Jin, deputy general manager and member of the Party Leadership Group of CNOOC, attended the ceremony and unveiled the studio.
The studio is a pioneering exploration of CNOOC to stimulate innovation in scientific research models through institutional and mechanism innovation. The studio implements the chief scientist responsibility system and is led by Xu Changgui, chief scientist of CNOOC and chief geologist of the company.
With the core mission of strategic scientific research, innovation system construction, global innovation collaboration, and talent highland construction, the studio explores a new model for high-end talent training in the field of offshore oil and gas exploration, builds a high-quality platform for scientific and technological innovation in offshore oil and gas exploration, and helps create a more open, inclusive, flexible and efficient scientific research and innovation ecosystem, opening a new chapter in CNOOC’s scientific and technological research.
Xu Changgui pointed out that the Studio will continue to explore the path of reform and innovation of the scientific and technological system and mechanism. Focusing on key core issues, centering on strategic directions such as deep and ultra-deep oil and gas exploration, exploration of new marine resources, and deep integration of big data and artificial intelligence with oil and gas exploration, Studio will build a scientific and technological research mechanism of “frontier exploration-technology research and development-exploration practice” to contribute scientific and technological wisdom and strength to the construction of a world-class energy company.
