NJZ Launches Europe’s Largest Inland Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker

On April 15, 2025, Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (NJZ) held a grand launching ceremony for the 135-meter duplex stainless steel chemical tanker (NJZ1122) for Dutch shipowner.

The 135-meter duplex stainless steel chemical tanker is a high-tech, high-value-added, and promising special vessel in the global market. With a length of 135 meters, the cargo tanks area adopts cofferdam system at fore and aft, and 18 cargo tanks are fully integrated into the hull. It features lightweight structure, precise manufacturing, corrosion-resistant materials, and high-strength materials, capable of carrying up to 300 kinds of liquid cargo. The construction model is also innovative. NJZ completes the main hull structure, while the Dutch shipyard is responsible for commissioning. Both parties leverage their strengths to jointly create high-quality vessels.

Mr. Robert-Jan Zimmerman, the General Manager of MERCURIUS SHIPBUILDING, said that this is not just a vessel but a crystallization of trust, teamwork, and international cooperation. He highly praised the construction capabilities of NJZ, stating that he is proud to have found such a reliable and capable partner in NJZ and expressed confidence in establishing a strong and long-lasting cooperative relationship with NJZ. Mr. Robert-Jan Zimmerman revealed that after completion of construction, both of this vessel and sister vessel will become the largest stainless steel chemical tankers in European inland waterways.

This is the first export vessel launched by NJZ and also the first high-tech and high-value-added vessel delivered to the European client. It marks that NJZ has fully mastered the construction technology and construction process of duplex stainless steel vessels, laying a solid foundation for expanding the European market. Under the current complex and volatile international trade environment, the timely launching of the vessel has won the trust of European clients and further strengthened NJZ’s determination and confidence to expand the European market.

As of now, NJZ is developing well, with 28 orders from both domestic and foreign markets, 12 vessels under construction. By the end of April,2025, another three vessels will be delivered.
