According to the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, China Merchants Jingling Shipyard (Weihai) Co. Ltd. (“CMJL (Weihai)”) has changed its name.

On April 7, 2025, CMJL (Weihai) was officially renamed China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard Co., Ltd.

According to the official WeChat account of China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard, the company was founded in April 1951 and was formerly known as Shandong Weihai Shipyard (July 1991 to February 2011) and AVIC Weihai Shipyard Co., Ltd. (February 2011 to November 2019). In November 2019, China Merchants Industry Holdings acquired the company’s equity held by AVIC International Holdings Limited and changed its name to China Merchants Jingling Shipyard (Weihai) Co., Ltd.

Weihai Shipyard has a built-up area of 956,000 square meters (with a planned area of 1.4 million square meters), a usable sea area of 1.65 million square meters, and a dock shoreline of 1,227 meters (with a planned area of 2,544 meters). It has one 30,000-ton slipway, one 100,000-ton repair dock and one shipbuilding dock, equipped with 400-ton and 800-ton gantry cranes and other facilities. It is mainly engaged in the design, manufacture, and conversion of large and medium-sized ships and marine engineering equipment.

To promote intelligent manufacturing, China’s first “full-process marine intelligent factory” started construction at China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard on March 28 this year. The project is located in Weihai, Shandong, with a total investment of over RMB 400 million and a total construction area of about 92,000 square meters. It is planned to be completed and put into production by the end of December this year.

After the project is completed, it will introduce intelligent production lines and a supporting digital smart management platform to create an industry-leading digital green smart factory, realizing intelligent and full-process management from steel storage, pre-treatment, block production to pre-outfitting, and reducing labor costs by 75%. The monthly production capacity of 5,000 tons of straight blocks will set a new industry record. Especially, the factory adopts data to reconstruct the shipbuilding gene and will become the first digital green smart factory in the domestic shipbuilding industry.

Currently, Weihai Shipyard is anchored in the new track of high-end ro-pax vessel market segment, with more than 20 shipbuilding orders in hand, ranking first in the world in the market segment, and the delivery date is now scheduled to 2028.

As a Shandong Province-certified enterprise technology center and a national high-tech enterprise, Weihai Shipyard is promoting strategic transformation and upgrading, building a three-in-one business layout and coordinated development mechanism of “shipbuilding, ship repair, and non-ship operations”, focusing on the “fine shipbuilding and strong repair” strategy, creating a world-class high-end ro-pax vessel manufacturing base, and building China’s leading Bohai Rim marine equipment maintenance center.
