Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers 7,000 LNG Dual-Fuel PCTCs

On April 10, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered the 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fueled PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “TRITON HIGHWAY”.

TRITON HIGHWAY is 199.93 meters long, 38.0 meters wide, 38.76 meters deep with a deadweight of 18,710 tons and a gross tonnage of 77,509. Equipped with a 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine, the PCTC has a speed of about 18.25 knots and is classed by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK) and flying the Japanese flag.

Compared to conventional marine fuel PCTCs, TRITON HIGHWAY is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 25-30%, nitrogen oxide emissions by 80-90%, and produces virtually no sulfur oxide emissions, according to Imabari Shipbuilding.

Since the vessel is equipped with LNG fuel tanks that continuously produce boiled off gas (BOG), the generated BOG can be used for generators and boilers, making it more environmentally friendly.

By adopting a bulkheadless structure and arranging a wider slope in a linear manner, the vehicle’s travel route can be easily understood, improving safety and cargo handling efficiency. Since the deck height can be adjusted up and down, it is possible to load not only passenger cars but also tall freight cars such as trucks and trailers.
