Qingdao Yangfan Receives Order for 2 Kamsarmax Bulk Carriers

Greek dry bulk owner Star Bulk Carriers has signed up for a fresh pair of kamsarmaxes in China.

The Petros Pappas-led owner and operator of around 120 ships has placed an order at Qingdao Yangfan for delivery in 2026, according to brokers.

The 82,000 dwt units add to six newbuilds ordered in 2021, which are slated for delivery next year. No price has been disclosed, shipping sources said building a kamsarmax in China currently costs around 33-35 million dollars.

“Kamsarmax contracting has led the way recently, with reports of 10 vessels being added to yards’ orderbooks, making this one of the busiest periods since July when Sea Traders alone ordered as many vessels,” shipbroker Allied said in its latest report.

In addition to the Star Bulk duo, compatriot owners Safe Bulkers and Lavinia have recently booked two and six newbuilds in Japan and China, respectively.
