The hull of the floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) P-80 built by CIMC Raffles for Petrobras has left the shipyard and will go to Singapore’s Seatrium for module integration. The FPSO P-80 is expected to be commissioned in 2027 at the Búzios field, in the sub-salt layer of the Santos Basin.
It is understood that P-80 was invested by Petrobras, and Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium, formed through the merger with Sembcorp Marine) and CIMC Raffles jointly bid for it. Keppel Shipyard is responsible for the EPC contract of the entire project, and CIMC Raffles is responsible for the design and construction of the hull, living quarters and some modules. In August 2022, CIMC Raffles and Keppel Shipyard signed the EPC contract for the FPSO P-80 hull through “cloud signing”.
P-80 is one of the largest FPSO platforms in Brazil, with a total length of 345.3 meters, a width of 60 meters, and a total weight of over 90,000 tons. Its daily production capacity can reach 225,000 barrels of oil, daily processing of natural gas can reach 12 million cubic meters with a storage capacity exceeds 1.6 million barrels.
The FPSO, which will be connected to 14 oil wells, seven of which are oil recovery wells and seven oil injection wells, is expected to begin operations in 2026, making it one of the largest FPSO projects undertaken by a domestic shipyard at that time.
The P-80 is part of Petrobras’ new generation of offshore units, designed for high production capacity and equipped with innovative technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. Highlights include the closed flare system, which increases gas utilization and prevents gas from burning in the atmosphere, ensuring greater safety and sustainability. Another innovative technology is the methane gas detection system, which is designed to prevent and reduce the risk of methane gas leaks.
In addition to the FPSO P-80 hull, CIMC Raffles is also undertaking the construction of the FPSO P-83, P-84 and P-85 hulls and other facilities for Petrobras. Like P-80, the hulls, living buildings and some modules of P-83, P-84 and P-85 are undertaken by CIMC Raffles, while module integration will be completed in Singapore.
Up to now, CIMC Raffles has delivered Petrobras FPSO P-71 hull, FPSO P-78 hull segments as well as topside modules for several FPSO projects.
