On April 3, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had signed a contract with an Asian shipping company to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.
The order amounts to about 385.3 billion won, or about $262 million, which is $7 million above the current market price of $255 million. The new vessel will be built by HD Hyundai Samho for delivery in December 2027.
HD KSOE did not disclose the name of the owner, but it is understood to be Purus Marine, and the specification of the vessel is 180,000 cubic meters.
Including this contract, HD KSOE has received 24 orders this year, worth about $4.07 billion, achieving 22.6% of its annual order target of $18.05 billion. By ship type, they are 1 LNG carrier, 4 LNG bunkering ships, 1 LPG/ammonia carrier, 2 ethane carriers, 12 container ships, and 4 tankers.
HD KSOE said, “As global demand for environmentally friendly energy and high value-added vessels continues to grow, we are strengthening our market responsiveness based on technology and quality, and we will continue to lead the global shipbuilding industry with differentiated competitiveness.”
