On March 28, the world’s first floating dynamically positioned all-sea cage aquaculture vessel “Zhanjiang Bay No. 1” was successfully launched in Tongzhou Bay Demonstration Zone, Nantong, Jiangsu Province.
The vessel was independently developed by Zhanjiang Bay Laboratory and is equipped with intelligent cruising and green energy systems, breaking through the limitation of operating in water depths of 1,000 meters. Its 80,000 cubic meters of intensive aquaculture space and intelligent management model provide an important practical platform for the large-scale development of China’s deep-sea aquaculture industry.
As the world’s first floating dynamically positioned aquaculture platform, “Zhanjiang Bay No. 1” integrates multiple functions such as offshore semi-submersible aquaculture, autonomous navigation to avoid typhoons, green energy supply, and intelligent control.
The platform is 154 meters long, 44 meters wide, 24.25 meters deep, with a maximum draft of 20 meters and 80,000 cubic meters of aquaculture water, equivalent to the volume of 32 standard swimming pools. It can float and cruise in the entire sea area and carry out deep-sea aquaculture, maximizing the use of marine space resources. After put into operation, it will carry out a full-system intelligent fishery aquaculture experiment, becoming an important breakthrough in aquaculture going deep into the sea.
The development of “Zhanjiang Bay No. 1” is not only the world’s first deep-water heavy equipment for all-sea aquaculture, but also a concentrated reflection of China’s independent innovation capabilities in the fields of marine fishery resource development, ecological environmental protection, and high-end equipment manufacturing. Its design embodies China’s most cutting-edge marine engineering concepts, integrates intelligent and green cutting-edge technologies, and has achieved a leap from following to leading in many core technologies.
