GSI delivered another 16000TEU container vessel to MSC

China Shipbuilding Trading Co., ltd. (CSTC) together with Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI) delivered one 16000TEU container vessel on October 16th of 2023. This vessel, which was invested by CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited (CSSC Leasing) and will be operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC), is the 2nd one of the series of 16000TEU Container Vessels.

With a length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a depth of 30.2 meters and a design draught of 14.5 meters, the vessel can carry a maximum of 16,616 standard containers, making it one of the largest tonnage container ships built in South China currently.

The ship is designed by Marine Design & Research Institute of China with excellent performance. By optimizing the line shape, propeller, main engine and adopting a series of energy-saving measures, this type of ship achieves lower fuel consumption under the premise of ensuring good speed and maneuverability, and the ship’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) reaches the third-stage standard to meet the world’s most stringent emission requirements; at the same time, the ship’s large-capacity reefer containers layout and system are further improved, and the operating cost is significantly reduced.

Based on the successful delivery of the 1st 16000TEU container vessel in July, there is a great improvement of cooperation, communication and production efficiency on this vessel and MSC gave high praise to the high quality of this vessel. The smooth delivery of this vessel further consolidated the market influence of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited in the field of large container ships and also enhanced the cooperative relationship among CSTC, GSI, CSSC Leasing and MSC and laid a solid foundation for the delivery of subsequent vessels.
