On March 25, CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering’s Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding held a naming ceremony for “Wanqu Lingding” – the world’s first deep-sea aquaculture vessel with natural water exchange.
“Wanqu Lingding” is a leading super aquaculture platform in China that integrates intelligent breeding, energy-saving and environmental protection, and fishery tourism. The platform has an overall length of 155.8 meters, a width of 44 meters, a depth of 24.25 meters, a design draft of 16 meters, a maximum aquaculture draft of 20 meters, an aquaculture water body of 80,000 cubic meters and a design life of 35 years. The vessel is equipped with 12 independent aquaculture tanks, with an annual production capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 tons, equivalent to the output of 5,000 mu of fishponds on land.
“Wanqu Lingding” adopts a number of innovative technologies. In terms of hull structure innovation, it adopts the world’s first vessel bow and stern with column-styled frame steel hull, innovatively combines vessel and deep-sea steel box technology, and creates original natural exchange technology of waters, which can realize natural seawater zero-pollution circulation.
The aquaculture vessel enables zero-pollution recycling of natural seawater and the use of clean energy sources such as solar and wind, significantly reducing energy costs for daily operations and realizing zero-carbon farming at anchor.
Equipped with advanced electric propulsion system, Wanqu Lingding can navigate independently to find the best aquaculture area and avoid typhoons, realizing “Sea Nomad”, shortening the aquaculture cycle and enhancing economic benefits. The vessel has a range of up to 2,000 nautical miles and adopts a DP positioning system to ensure safety, efficiency and accuracy when sailing and anchoring, and has the ability to navigate under a Class 12 typhoon.
Wanqu Lingding can realize automated and intelligent breeding, support remote one-key feeding, scientific feeding, automatic fish collection, and automatic regular cleaning of net cage attachments, and is committed to building a “mobile deep-sea granary”. In addition, the vessel also has a variety of supporting functions such as fishing, water sports, and research. The maximum number of people on board when moored is 199. It can link the island tourism industry, create a new model of “fishery + cultural tourism”, and promote the diversified development of the marine economy.
Delivered in June this year, Wanqu Lingding will mainly operate in the waters of the Wanshan Islands in Zhuhai, focusing on the breeding of high-quality seafood, such as golden pomfret, octopus, red guppy and other high-quality seafood, to open up a new phase of intelligent aquaculture in China’s deep-sea.
