Recently, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered the 7,000 CEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “TOURMALINE ACE” to its owner.
TOURMALINE ACE is 199.93 meters long, 38.0 meters wide and 38.76 meters deep with a deadweight of 18,467 tons and a gross tonnage of 77,695. Classed by NK and flying the Liberian flag, the vessel is equipped with a 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine and has a speed of approximately 18.0 knots.
Imabari Shipbuilding said that compared to PCTCs using traditional marine fuel, “TOURMALINE ACE” can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25-30%, nitrogen oxide emissions by 80-90%, and almost no sulfur oxide emissions by being equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR).
Since the vessel is equipped with LNG fuel tanks that continuously produce boiled off gas (BOG), the generated BOG can be used in generators and boilers, making it more environmentally friendly.
In addition, the vessel adopts a bulkhead-less structure with widened slope arranged in a straight line, which can simplify vehicle routes and improve safety and loading/unloading efficiency; the height of the liftable deck can be adjusted vertically, allowing it to load not only passenger cars, but also trucks, trailers, and other large cargo vehicles.
