China Yangtze Shipping Group to build 73 clean energy vessels to expand fleet

On March 18, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE) held a naming and delivery ceremony for “Changhang Jiahai,” the first LNG tank exchange 14,000-ton clean energy river-sea direct dry bulk carrier built for China Yangtze Shipping Group.

Reportedly, as part of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s 2030 project for the development of key technologies and demonstration vessels for green and intelligent vessels on the Yangtze River trunk line, the “Changhang Jiahai” has successfully implemented and validated the LNG tank exchange solution in a real vessel.

The vessel measures 138 meters in length, 22 meters in width and 10.3 meters in depth. Equipped with dual-fuel engine, AC shore power system and intelligent energy efficiency management system, it can significantly improve the energy utilization rate and enhance the environmental protection performance, and has a demonstration effect in the field of clean energy application for river sea direct vessels.

It is worth noting that China Yangtze Shipping Group stated that the group is comprehensively accelerating the construction of a shipping and logistics that “prioritizes both river and sea operations, integrates water and land transportation, emphasizes green environmental protection, and leads through innovation”. By 2030, it will also build 73 clean energy vessels to create the first large-scale clean energy fleet on the Changjiang River.
