NACKS Continues to Lead in ‘Unsupervised Shipbuilding’ with New 64,000 DWT Bulk Carrier Delivery

Recently, a new 64,000 DWT bulk carrier was grandly named at the new outfitting base of Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS). This vessel is the third one built by NACKS and Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) for the same owner and there are two others vessels under construction.

It is worth mentioning that during the construction of new vessels, the shipowner has never sent a supervisor, which demonstrates the trust of the shipowner in the two shipbuilders. To date, the number of vessels built without supervision by NACKS and DACKS has exceeded 20.

“Unsupervised shipbuilding” refers to a model where the shipowner does not dispatch a supervision team to be stationed at the shipyard before the trial voyage or delivery. The implementation of this model, on one hand, fully demonstrates the shipowner’s high level of trust in the shipbuilder, while on the other hand, the shipbuilder itself must possess a mature management system and sufficient confidence in its capabilities.

NACKS is an expert in the field of “unsupervised shipbuilding”. As early as 2010, it was the first in China to realize “unsupervised shipbuilding” and set an excellent record of the highest third-party inspection pass rate and the lowest warranty rate after delivery, becoming a well-deserved pioneer and benchmark in the industry.

The “unsupervised” vessels previously delivered by NACKS have won widespread acclaim in the market for their excellent performance and reliable quality after being put into operation. The warranty items show no deviation compared to traditional “supervised” ships, truly achieving a consistent level of product quality regardless of whether the shipowner is stationed at the shipyard or not.
