At around 9:40 am on March 15, a fire broke out on a ship under construction at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Dong-gu, Ulsan, and thick smoke billowed from the scene.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, and the workers who were working in the cabin were evacuated in time, causing no casualties. The fire department estimated that the property loss was about 800,000 won.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire department initially speculated that workers were welding on the brackets under the deck, which “caused the insulation material to catch fire.”
