CNOOC’s Semi-submersible Drilling Platform “Nan Hai 8” Ready for Brazil After Major Restorative Repairs at Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou)

Recently, the large semi-submersible drilling platform “Nan Hai 8” successfully left the port after completing restorative repairs at Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou) Ltd, one of the largest ship repair yards in China and part of China Merchants Group.

It is reported that “Nan Hai 8” is a deepwater drilling platform purchased from abroad by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) for the needs of South China Sea oil development and the implementation of the national South China Sea strategy.

The platform has a maximum operating water depth of 1,400m and a maximum drilling depth of 7,620m. Its operating capacity is second only to “Haiyang Shiyou 981” in China. On December 5, 2012, the upgraded “Nan Hai 8” officially joined the deepwater fleet of CNOOC.

It is worth mentioning that the “Nan Hai 8” has been to the Arctic, West Africa and other waters for operations, setting a record of the deepest well depth of 3,342 meters in Russia’s Sea of ​​Okhotsk. This time it will go to the Brazilian waters to continue serving.
