Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Advances in Medium-Sized Gas Carrier Sector with steel cutting of 48,000 Cubic Meter LPG Carrier

On March 10th, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. held a steel cutting ceremony for the Benelux 48,000 cubic meter LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) carrier. This marks a crucial step for the company in the medium-sized gas carrier sector, achieving a leap from being a “small vessel expert” to a “leader in medium-sized vessels.”

So far, Huangpu Wenchong has undertaken three ships of this type, and also three 25,000 cubic meters of ammonia dual-fuel powered liquid ammonia carriers, four 41,000 cubic meters of ammonia dual-fuel powered liquid ammonia carriers and four 60,000 cubic meters of LPG dual-fuel powered LPG carriers. It holds orders for 14 medium-sized gas carriers, ranking third in the world.

In addition, the company has also strengthened independent research and development, successfully developed a 43,000 cubic meter ammonia dual-fuel powered LPG carrier, broke through the core design difficulties of the liquid cargo system, realized the independent construction of C-type tanks to A-type tanks, and formed a professional design and construction team to form a core technical barrier covering all ship types.

The 48,000 cubic meter LPG carrier is 190 meters in length, 32.2 meters in width and 19 meters in depth. The cargo hold of the ship is equipped with three independent fully refrigerated A-type liquid tanks, which are built with low-temperature carbon manganese steel and have a total capacity of 48,000 cubic meters. In addition to being able to carry a variety of petrochemical products such as LPG and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), it can also meet the needs of loading liquid ammonia and cargo exchange transportation.

Data shows that the demand for small and medium-sized gas carriers, as a supplement to large transportation chains, continues to grow in regional trade and transshipment transportation, and the market size is expected to double in the next decade. Huangpu Wenchong precisely grasps this trend and actively undertakes green fuel transportation vessels. The company will expand its share in emerging markets such as the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It will optimize production processes, promote intelligent manufacturing, and ensure the efficient delivery of orders before 2028.
