MSC’s two 10,300 TEU dual-fuel container ships break ground

On March 10th, Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard (Changhong International) officially commenced the construction of the first two 10,300 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) at their intelligent workshop. This marks the official start of the second series of shipbuilding projects for MSC by Changhong International.

This project is a new generation of 10,000 TEU class dual-fuel container ship jointly developed by Changhong International and CIMC ORIC with fully shared intellectual property rights, and it is also the largest container ship that can enter the Black Sea through the Turkish Straits.

This ship adopts double-island arrangement, and the optimized design of the hull line matches the ship owner’s multi-objective operation plan, with excellent performance, fast speed, low fuel consumption and other core technology features; equipped with the largest C-type LNG tank of the same class, the endurance of LNG mode and fuel mode can meet the demand of single round trip on the classic China-Europe or China-US routes, which guarantees the owner’s flexibility of the operation plan; it has the features of clean and environmental protection, low carbon emission, and the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) of the ship is about 50% lower than the stringent Stage III emission baseline of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is far ahead of similar vessels in the market.

This type of ship has a total length of 299.95 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a molded depth of 25.0 meters, a structural draft of 17.5 meters, and a designed speed of 20 knots. The two ships that started construction were classed by DNV.
