According to CSSC Silent Electric System ( Wuxi) Technology Co.,Ltd. (“SES-Tech”), the company has recently successfully signed a contract to supply the shaft generator systems for 24 80,000 DWT multi-purpose grain carriers for COSCO Shipping, marking the largest batch order in the company’s history.
It is reported that the 24 80,000 DWT multi-purpose grain carriers are being constructed by Chengxi Shipyard, a subsidiary of CSSC. The vessels measure 229.95 meters in length, 32.26 meters in beam, and 21.00 meters in depth, and are classed by CCS. They will fly the Chinese flag and the Hong Kong flag.
Equipped with CSEI’s “S-Shaft” shaft generator system, the vessels adopt a solution featuring a shaft-through motor, frequency converter, and isolation transformer. The shaft generator system has a power output of 800 kW, with the core frequency conversion and electrical control equipment utilizing CSEI’s proprietary intellectual property products.
On August 30 last year, COSCO Shipping Development announced that it had commissioned Chengxi Shipyard to construct 22 80,000 DWT bulk carriers, with a total transaction value of approximately 6.873 billion yuan (excluding tax). The cost per vessel is about 312 million yuan (excluding tax), and the vessels are expected to be delivered successively starting from January 2027.
