Recently, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) officially signed a construction contract with NBP (NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd.), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), for a 33,000 DWT deck carrier. This collaboration marks DSIC’s first major order of 2025 and represents the initial new shipbuilding partnership with a Japanese shipowner.
The contracted deck carrier is tailor-made for the transportation of large modular equipment, classed by NK and flying the Panama flag. Its wide deck design and high deadweight capacity can meet the transportation needs of offshore wind power equipment, petrochemical modules and other ultra-large cargoes, which will significantly improve the efficiency of global special logistics.
The vessel is developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) , a subsidiary of CSSC, and DSIC is in charge of the production design and construction. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered in 2027, injecting fresh blood into NBP’s fleet, helping it to renew and upgrade its fleet and realizing green upgrading.
NBP, as the only shipping company in Japan operating heavy lift and deck carriers, is well known in the field of module transportation, project logistics and bulk cargo logistics. The Japanese market is known for its high technical threshold and strict standards, and this cooperation is undoubtedly an important bridge for DSIC to enter the high-end ship market in East Asia.
