On March 5, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony of Hubei Guangji Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group’s new energy ship base project with an annual output of 1 million DWT was held, marking the official launch of this major project. This project, jointly undertaken by Hubei Guangji Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, China Railway 22nd Bureau, and CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering, is expected to bring new development opportunities to the shipbuilding industry in Hubei Province and even the whole country.
The Intelligent New Energy Ship Industrial Park project of Hubei Province is one of the key initiatives under the “Two Platforms, Four Bases” development demonstration three-year action plan for the Hubei Province Green Intelligent Ship Industrial Park.
The park emphasizes two major characteristics: intelligence and new energy. It integrates the construction, maintenance, and operation of new energy ships, aiming to create a national pioneer zone for the application of green intelligent ships.
The Intelligent Ship Industrial Park project covers a total land area of 915 mu, with a total construction area of approximately 195,200 square meters. The project includes the establishment of production facilities such as a hull assembly workshop, block welding workshop, coating workshop, pipe workshop, assembly and distribution workshop, outfitting workshop, block assembly yard, block storage yard, and pre-outfitting yard; living and auxiliary facilities such as an administrative building, shipowner’s building, cafeteria, multifunctional hall, production auxiliary building, and coating auxiliary building; as well as basic public utility facilities including an air compressor station and distribution station, substation, and sewage treatment plant, etc.
It is reported that after the project is put into production, it is expected to have an annual output of 1,000,000 DWT new energy vessels, with an annual output value exceeding 4 billion yuan, and driving the employment of more than 5,000 people, with significant social and economic benefits.
Public information shows that Hubei Guangji Shipbuilding Heavy Industry was established in 2022, with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan, 100% owned by the State-owned Assets Management Bureau of Wushu Municipal People’s Government.
