On March 5th, Fujian Shipbuilding’s subsidiary, Mawei Shipbuilding, successfully delivered an 85,000 DWT multi-purpose pulp vessel, completing the delivery 148 days ahead of the contract schedule.
It is not only the largest multi-purpose cargo vessel constructed by Fujian Shipbuilding, but also the largest multi-purpose pulp vessel in the world at present. With an overall length of 225 meters, a beam of 36 meters, a deadweight of about 85,000 tons, and a service speed of 15.5 knots, the vessel possesses strong adaptability and loading efficiency, and can transport a wide range of goods such as pulp, containers, and new energy vehicles.
Meanwhile, it has excellent environmental performance, equipped with high-pressure SCR system and open desulfurization tower, meeting the requirements of the third stage of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and with carbon emissions lower than 50% of the baseline, which makes the economic performance outstanding.
The vessel features a back-loading hydraulic hatch cover, with a single piece weighing up to 280 tons, making it the largest and heaviest single-piece hatch cover in China. Mawei Shipbuilding adopted a construction method that involved initially building the hatch cover in sections and then assembling them into a complete unit, successfully achieving the high-precision requirements for the entire vessel’s hatch covers. Subsequently, the shipbuilder completed critical processes such as the installation of hatch cover tracks and bases for the entire vessel in just 20 days.
