On February 28, at berth 17 of Kwai Chung Container Terminal No. 9 in Hong Kong, China, the ONE container ship “ONE Columba” collided with the container ship “Clifford Maersk”. At that time, the “ONE Columba” was sailing from Shenzhen Chiwan Port to the terminal for berthing and collided with the anchored “Clifford Maersk”.
The Clifford Maersk sustained minor damage, with three containers on board falling into the water, which were subsequently recovered. The One Columba reportedly sustained only minor damage, but no specific details were provided.
An emergency response team has been dispatched to the scene and the accident is under investigation. News reports indicated that the ONE Columba may have lost power prior to the accident and that the container ship may have performed emergency avoidance maneuvers by dropping anchor. However, no details were provided as to whether a tugboat assisted the Clifford Maersk during the accident.
Authorities said there were no injuries and no pollution from either vessel. ONE Columba was last reported anchored in a nearby anchorage during the investigation.
