Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry cut steel for a 319,000 DWT VLCC

On February 27th, Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd(HT) held the steel cutting ceremony for the 319,000 DWT very large crude carrier (VLCC), constructed for the shipowner Trafigura.

Classed by American Bureau of Shipping, the VLCC will have a length of 333.00 meters, a beam of 60.00 meters and a depth of 30.60 meters. The VLCC will be designed with advanced energy-saving technologies to comply with the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental protection and energy efficiency standards, and to ensure strict compliance with the International Ship Code (ISC) during the construction process.

According to statistics, Trafigura has ordered six 319,000 DWT VLCCs from HT in three separate orders, with order information made public in February, June and September 2024, respectively. According to shipbrokers, the price of each vessel is around $120 million, which estimates the total value of the six VLCCs to be around $720 million (RMB 5.081 billion).

HT’s main products focus on bulk carriers and liquid cargo carriers as well as offshore products. Bulk carriers cover all types of vessels from 38,000 DWT to 208,000 DWT, while liquid cargo carriers cover the full range of MR product tankers, LR1 product tankers, LR2 product tankers, Suezmax oil tankers and VLCCs.
