Samsung Heavy Industries is about to sign an order for nine Suezmax shuttle tankers for Petrobras subsidiary Transpetro, according to Korean media reports.
According to brokerage sources, Greek shipowner Tsakos has received an order from Petrobras for nine shuttle tankers to be built by Samsung Heavy Industries.
The tankers have a deadweight of 158,000 tons and are equipped with DP2 systems. The price of the single vessel is $146.5 million, with a total contract value of approximately $1.33 billion. The first two vessels are expected to be delivered in 2027 and the rest in 2028.
It is reported that in November last year, Transpetro launched an international tender for four shuttle tankers (later expanded to nine), with many shipowners and shipbuilders participating in the bidding. In the end, Tsakos and Samsung Heavy Industries won the bid.
Transpetro’s new order is part of its fleet renewal and expansion program (TP25). Under the TP25 program, Transpetro also recently launched an international tender for eight gas carriers.
