Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers 3000th Ship

On February 18, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered a Capesize bulk carrier to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), making it the 3,000th ship delivered since the shipyard’s was established.

Imabari Shipbuilding held a naming and delivery ceremony for the 181,000 DWT bulk carrier “Cape Suzuran” at its Saijo Shipyard. The new ship is classed by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) and flies the Liberian flag. Equipped with nine cargo holds and hatches, it is the largest ship capable of entering the Port of Dunkirk.

It is reported that Imabari Shipbuilding constructed its first steel ship, the “Fuji Maru,” in 1956, completed its 1,000th ship, the “CHUBU MARU,” in 1997, and delivered its 2,000th ship, the “CAPE LILY,” in 2012.

Imabari Shipbuilding’s achievements also include: constructing its first 300,000 DWT VLCC in 2001; building a 154,000 cbm LNG carrier in 2008; delivering an LNG-fueled PCTC (pure car and track carrier) in 2021; and constructing one of the world’s largest 24,000 TEU container ships in 2023.
