SDARI joins hands with DNV and PG to create carbon digitization system

On February 20, Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) , Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and PG Ship Management (PG), a subsidiary of Pacific Gas (Hong Kong), announced the opening of the Carbon Digital System in-depth cooperation, which will open up the data link of key systems and create a one-stop service for compliance and energy efficiency optimization.

From 2025, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and FuelEU Maritime will require shipping companies to pay for carbon allowances and gradually adopt low-carbon fuels. These new regulations set higher standards for accurate collection, real-time monitoring and compliance reporting of ship operation data, accelerating the pace of digital transformation for shipping companies.

Facing the challenges of the new regulations, PG Ship Management cooperated with SDARI and chose the “CO2 Carbon Emission Management” service of DOSS®, a digital operation support system, for all operating vessels of the whole fleet to realize the monitoring, analysis and evaluation of the fleet’s carbon emissions, CII (Carbon Intensity Index), EU ETS, FuelEU, energy efficiency and other important indicators through the API interface. CII (Carbon Intensity Index), EU ETS, FuelEU, Energy Efficiency and Energy Consumption, etc., and conveniently submit the required data to DNV through API interface.

As of mid-February, SDARI has assisted PG Ship Management to solve all potential problems of data reporting, and completed the annual DCS (Data Collection System)/MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) data reporting for all 20 vessels.

PG Ship Management has also partnered with DNV to deploy the ‘Emissions Connect’ platform for 15 of its existing vessels and 4 new vessels to be delivered. The platform is a one-stop solution that automates the collection, verification and reporting of emissions data to ensure compliance with MRV, CII, EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime and future IMO regulations.

SDARI and DNV also established a partnership to achieve cross-system data interoperability and digital management of the entire chain, effectively reducing the workload during data transmission, effectively reducing human errors in the data reporting process, and laying the foundation for further data sharing and value mining.

The core of this cooperation is to create a model for digital management of carbon emissions based on the deep integration of the three parties’ technical resources. SDARI’s digital operation system DOSS® collects ship energy efficiency data in real time and directly connects to the “Emissions Connect” service through DNV’s Veracity platform to form a closed-loop management. This integration greatly improves data quality and processing efficiency, enabling PG to quickly generate compliance reports and avoid risks.
