Recently, the emergency support base for ro-ro passenger transport in the Qiongzhou Strait has been largely completed. The key production facility, the floating dock “Qionghai No. 1,” has undergone standardized modifications and passed relevant inspections. The necessary ship certificates and documents are currently being expedited.
It is reported that the emergency support base was constructed by Zhanjiang Port Group’s subsidiary, Guangdong Xuwen Port Holding, through the renovation of the Hai’an Port operation area. The base occupies a shoreline length of 380 meters, covers a land area of approximately 60 mu (about 4 hectares), and utilizes a total sea area of about 20 hectares. On land, the base will feature two horizontal shipways and one floating dock for vessel docking, with an annual ship repair capacity designed to reach 100 vessels.
The construction of the floating dock “Qionghai No. 1” is one of the key links of the project, which can provide facilities for ship repair and refurbishment services. “Qionghai No. 1” has a total length of 120 meters, a beam of 34 meters, a depth of 4.6 meters, and a maximum height of 16.95 meters. It can meet the needs of passenger and cargo ro-ro ships sailing in the Qiongzhou Strait, and take into account the maintenance needs of ships of 5,000 tons and below. At the same time, it can provide maintenance and logistics support services for ships to ensure that the ships maintain a good technical condition and improve transportation efficiency.
The construction of the floating dock “Qionghai No. 1” is one of the key components of the project, providing facilities for ship repair and refurbishment services. “Qionghai No. 1” has an overall length of 120 meters, a beam of 34 meters, a depth of 4.6 meters and a maximum height of 16.95 meters. It is capable of accommodating the ro-ro passenger and cargo ships navigating the Qiongzhou Strait, as well as meeting the maintenance needs of vessels up to 5,000 tons. Additionally, it offers repair, maintenance, and logistical support services to ensure ships remain in optimal technical condition, thereby enhancing transportation efficiency.
In the future, once “Qionghai No. 1” is put into operation, the emergency support base will be able to simultaneously provide repair and maintenance services for four ro-ro passenger and cargo ships during peak transportation periods. This will enable timely repair, maintenance, and logistical support services for vessels, thereby improving the transportation efficiency of the Qiongzhou Strait.
