On February 19, there was a groundbreaking ceremony held on February 19 for the Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base Project (hereinafter referred to as the “Yangzi Hongyuan Project”) under the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, marking the official start of construction.
As a major project of Jiangsu Province in 2025, Yangzi Hongyuan Project is an important layout for the transformation and upgrading of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and the development of its products in the direction of higher-end, greener and higher quality.
The base aims to build a world-class demonstration area for the high-quality development of clean energy gas vessels, implement the modern shipbuilding model and build a modern intelligent factory in accordance with the planning concepts of intelligence and digitalization. After the completion of the project, it will become the main base for the construction of green clean energy ship orders in hand of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.
The project will use a coastline of about 1,320 meters and an area of about 1,300 mu to build a 300,000-ton shipbuilding dock, a 200,000-ton outfitting wharf, and a 100,000-ton harbor pool with an annual production capacity of about 800,000 deadweight tons. It is expected to invest RMB 3 billion in the next two years and be completed and put into production by the end of 2026. After the project reaches full production, the annual output value will be no less than RMB 10 billion and the annual average comprehensive tax will be no less than RMB 300 million.
According to previous reports, on July 15, 2024, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding signed an agreement with Jingjiang Xinqiao Town (Xinqiao Park), and Yangzi Hongyuan Project was officially signed and settled in Jingjiang.
At that time, Ren Letian, Chairman of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, said that Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, as the only private enterprise in China to undertake an order for 175,000 cubic meters of super-large LNG vessels, builds a green, high-tech, clean-energy shipbuilding project aimed at creating a world-class demonstration area for the high-quality development of clean-energy gas vessels, implementing a modern shipbuilding model in accordance with the planning concepts of intelligentization and digitization, and constructing a modern intelligent factory.
As the “leader” of China’s private shipbuilding enterprises, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has expanded its product portfolio to include high-tech vessels such as Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLEC) and Very Large LNG Carriers.
It is reported that Yangzijiang Shipbuilding first ventured into the LNG vessel field in 2022 and announced the signing of two 175,000 cubic meters LNG carriers with European shipowners in October 2022, marking it as the fourth shipyard in China, and the first domestic private shipyard to receive orders for large-scale LNG carriers.
The history of Yangtze River Shipbuilding can be traced back to 1956. It started as a ship repair and building cooperative. After a series of developments including factory relocation in 1975, shareholding restructuring in 1999, construction of a new factory across the river in 2005 and listing in 2007, it is now China’s first shipbuilding company listed in Singapore and has also developed into the largest private shipbuilding company in China.
