Hengli Heavy Industries Receives Order for Four 82,000 DWT Bulk Carriers from Japan’s Dongyun Kisen Kaisha

Japan’s Doun Kisen has ordered four 82,000 DWT bulk carriers from Hengli Heavy Industries at a price of around US$37 million per vessel, which are expected to be delivered in 2027, according to Trade Winds.

This is the first time for Hengli Heavy Industries to undertake shipbuilding orders from a Japanese shipowner.

Doun Kisen also placed an order with Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. (XMXYG SOE) in December last year for four new vessels of two types, including two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers and two 63,550 dwt bulk carriers, which are expected to be delivered in 2027.

The unit price of an 82,000 DWT vessel is approximately US$37.3 million, and the unit price of a 63,550 DWT vessel is approximately US$35.3 million.

As previously reported, Hengli Heavy Industries has also recently received an order for 2+2 capesize vessels of 180,000 DWT from Taiwanese dry bulk shipping operator U-Ming Marine, which is the first time that Hengli Heavy Industries has received an order from a shipowner in Taiwan Province of China. The order is priced at about US$78 million per vessel, and the first 2 new vessels are expected to be delivered in July and August 2027.

Chen Jianhua, Chairman and President of Hengli Group, recently said that Hengli Group will accelerate the construction of a modern, intelligent and green world-class shipbuilding base, and promote China’s shipbuilding to stand on the high point of the global industry.

According to Clarksons data, Hengli Heavy Industries received orders for 56 new ships with a total compensated gross tonnage(CGT) of 2.68 million in 2024, ranking fourth among the world’s monohull shipyards (non-shipbuilding groups).
