Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Achieves Milestone with Successful LNG Bunkering for First 8,600 CEU PCTC

On February 12, the first 8,600 CEU PCTC built by Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) successfully completed LNG bunkering at Terminal 1, marking the successful application of LNG bunkering technology in PCTC, and also meaning that the vessel has officially entered the sprint stage for delivery.

The PCTC is independently developed and designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) , a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The vessel has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a depth of 14.8 meters, a design draught of 9.2 meters, and a design speed of 19 knots.

With 14 vehicle decks, the vessel is capable of conveniently and efficiently loading and unloading small cars, vans, buses, trucks, trailers, as well as super-high and super-heavy ro-ro cargoes.

It is also capable of loading new energy vehicles such as hydrogen fuel, natural gas fuel, batteries, etc., and is suitable for loading a variety of dangerous goods and containers. Its power system adopts LNG dual-fuel low-speed main engine, equipped with high-pressure LNG gas supply system and C-type fuel storage tanks, and its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is lower than the requirements of Phase III.
