DSIC breaks ground for a 307,000 DWT VLCC

On February 10, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), commenced the construction of the 130th 307,000 DWT Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) South Korea’s CIDO SHIPPING (H.K.) CO., LTD.

The VLCC is about 333 meters in total length, 60 meters in beam, and designed to have a draft of 20.5 meters. It can normally carry 2.2 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Malacca.

It is equipped with a more energy-efficient G-type main engine and a new large-diameter high-efficiency propeller. The energy-saving devices include energy-saving guide wheels and vortex fins, achieving optimal energy-saving effects.

Its propulsion system adopts MAN 6G80ME-C10.5 EGRTC main engine, which meets the latest IMO requirements on NOx and SOx emissions.
