The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has introduced and enforced cybersecurity regulations for ships contracted for construction after July 1, 2024, it has been announced.
Equipment and systems on newly constructed ships, including ship operation technology (OT) systems, such as computer based system (CBS) that utilize data to control and monitor physical processes that are susceptible to cyber-events and that, if subjected to cyber-events, could pose a risk to the safety of life, the safety of the ship and/or the environment, are required to be provided with a Type Approval Certificate issued in accordance with IACS UR E27.
