In order to increase its presence in the gas transportation sector, Singaporean shipowner Jaldhi Overseas is ordering more gas carriers from China.
Jaldhi’s fleet list shows that four 40,000 m3 LPG/liquid ammonia carriers have been ordered from Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding.
As previously reported, the first 2 vessels were signed on October 6, 2023, at a price of approximately $67 million each, and are scheduled for delivery in May and August 2027, respectively.
Before September last year, Jaldhi had already added two other LPG/liquid ammonia carriers ordered from Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding to its list of newbuildings under construction, although this order was not publicly reported.
It is understood that the four new vessels will be applied to India’s energy transportation. jaldhi previously said that the company continues to update the bulk carrier fleet at the same time, is also actively expanding the field of oil chemical vessels and gas vessels, increase the order of gas vessels is based on the gas transportation market in India is optimistic about.
In addition to the four LPG/liquid ammonia carriers, Jaldhi has eight other vessels under construction at Yangzi Mitsui, including two 66,000 dwt bulk carriers and six 50,000 dwt MR product tankers, with deliveries from the third quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.
Established in 2004 as a subsidiary of India’s Bothra Group, Jaldhi currently owns 12 bulk carriers and 3 stainless steel chemical tankers, as well as 17 newbuildings (14 of which are being built in Chinese shipyards), including 5 bulk carriers, 6 MR product tankers, 4 LPG carriers, and 2 VLACs.
