To expand its container business, Denmark’s Navigare Capital Partners has ordered up to six container ships from a Chinese shipyard.
According to Clarksons, the investment fund management company has signed a construction contract with Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding for four 4,300 TEU container ships, with the contract also including two optional vessels. The first batch of four ships is expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2028. The contract price has not been disclosed.
Navigare Capital was founded in 2017 by Maersk Chairman Robert Maersk Uggla and four prominent shipping executives. The company currently manages three funds with operating assets that include bulk carriers, tankers, gas carriers and offshore wind support ships in addition to container ships.
Navigare Capital’s recent involvement in container ship newbuilds includes taking delivery of six 2,700 TEU feeder ships between 2023 and 2024 through a partnership with Schoeller Holdings.
So far this year, Navigare Capital has ordered 18 container ships totaling 200,000 TEU, according to Clarkson data.
