Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard (ASRY) announced that it has obtained a license for the maintenance of LNG carriers from French company GTT, a leader in the LNG containment system market.
GTT evaluated and reviewed the shipyard’s technical and operational capabilities, shipyard infrastructure, expertise and staff qualifications, and issued the certification during the recent Seatrade Maritime Qatar, confirming that ASRY meets international standards for the repair and maintenance of LNG carriers.
This certification is a major benefit for ASRY, as GTT holds an absolute market share in the LNG containment system sector, with orders continuing until 2031. GTT’s website lists over 630 vessels equipped with GTT containment systems.
As of the end of September 2024, GTT has orders for containment systems for 325 LNG carriers, 16 ethane carriers, two FSRUs, two FLNGs and five onshore tanks. In terms of LNG fuel, GTT has 61 orders.
ASRY shipyard is located in Bahrain and was established in 1977. ASRY has a dry dock with a capacity of 500,000 DWT, two floating docks with lengths of 252 meters and 227 meters, a 255-meter slipway, and 15 repair berths with a total length of 5,000 meters.
The shipyard’s business scope covers the repair of most ship types, including jack-up drilling rigs and other offshore equipment, as well as the manufacturing of onshore and offshore components.
